This report will outline the Government’s publication of new plan making regulations under the Levelling Up and Regeneration Act 2023. The new regulations are necessary to set out how plans that are to progress must achieve the 30-month timetable which includes three gateways which must be successfully passed in order for a plan to be adopted following examination. The publication of the regulations will require the Arun Local Plan update to align with the new planning system as any plans that are more than 5 years old are expected to follow the new regulations when they come into effect. An update will also be given on Arun’s request to be included as a front runner authority, benefitting from Government assistance and guidance on successfully implementing the new plan making system.
